The Issue

La Jolla is home to some of the most stunning ocean views on the West Coast. This incredible La Jolla home included floor to ceiling windows in each West facing room, opening the home up to 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean. With such an incredible location, the home was chosen to be featured in a popular reality show. The producers required the home to be camera ready at all times, and asked that we create an extreme outdoor living space that will stand out and shock viewers. For this project, Welby Construction Management created the ultimate party house.

The Work

The challenge with this home was to preserve the sophistication of the property while adding touches of extravagance. The use of explosive paint colors such as cobalt blue and vibrant yellow accents made the deck pop and complemented the nautical feel of the home. The roof was converted to the ultimate adult playground complete with a sandy beach, custom decks and life-sized game of chess. The space was then accented with giant pillows and lounge seats, built to provoke an outdoor living feel. Our master carpenters were charged with creating decks that would stand up to the weather and look great on camera. The Welby team had to use inventive techniques to bring 80 cubic yards of beach sand onto the roof to create the beach scene. We even renovated the bathrooms to fit the reality show lifestyle. Which included lighted sinks, extravagant tile designs to fit the walk in showers, and heated toilet seats.

Another crucial aspect to the project was obtaining and maintaining special permits required for construction and temporary special events. The WCM project management team was able to secure all permits and guide each inspection flawlessly throughout the course of the job. Point Loma Retreat


Most of the properties purchased by investors are meant to take a great home that is outdated or underutilized, create the best use of space while transforming the old home into something new and beautiful, giving it new life for a new family. Most of these projects are streamlined and require only 8-12 weeks to complete. This Point Loma home is one such project completed in late 2013 by Welby Construction Management.

The Work
